being Pokémon GO a game as a service that relies on the real world to work, one might think that the virtual map is faithful to the real map. However, the truth is that users were exploring a somewhat outdated virtual world, but that will change soon.
Naturally, the in-game map is not updated at the same time as the real one. Although Niantic has made improvements so that what the map reflects is as true to the real world (via scanning or lighting improvements within the title), it does use map information it gets from OpenStreetMap to render the game. However, the maps you use so far are 3 years old.

Since the world has changed a lot topographically since 2019, the company reported today that it is time to update the maps.
If new buildings were built in your city during this period, they will appear in the game; likewise, paths that were traced should be reflected on the virtual map. On the contrary, it is expected that buildings or constructions that were demolished will no longer appear on the map.

The distribution of Pokemon on the map Pokémon GO it will be better
That’s not all, along with the map update it will be possible to see “different Pokémon in even more places than before”. Niantic explains that in densely populated places there will be the same number of creatures as before, but their distribution will be more even, in addition to Pokémon appearing in different places.
This is good news for players in rural or rapidly expanding regions, as overall spawn numbers could increase there.
According to the official statement, the changes within the game will begin to be noticed in the coming weeks and the map is expected to more accurately reflect the environment.
In case you missed it: a Pokémon from Hisui will debut at the next Pokémon Community Day Pokémon GO.
