BRUSSELS, Oct. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has transferred this Thursday to the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian, the firmness of the European Union to sanction those who support Russian aggression, after approving restrictions on the supply of drones kamikazes that Moscow uses against civilians in Ukraine.

“I have been speaking this morning with the Iranian foreign minister to report on this decision and ensure the EU’s determination to do everything possible with respect to all those who could be involved in supporting Russian aggression,” said the official. of European diplomacy in declarations prior to the summit of Heads of State and Government in Brussels.

The EU has approved this Thursday sanctions against five people and three Iranian entities for the supply of kamikaze drones to Russia, used in attacks against civilians in Ukraine, although two people and two other entities are already subject to European punitive measures for the repression in Iran .

In this batch, the European bloc punishes the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohamed Hosein Bagheri, to whom it attributes decisions within the framework of the military program of unmanned aerial vehicles, in addition to two other high-ranking military officers involved in the program.

Likewise, the EU includes on its ‘black list’ the company Shahed Aviation Industries, the aeronautical company behind the design and development of the drones that Tehran supplies to Russia. Shahed Aviation Industries is responsible for materially supporting actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The sanctions have been approved this Thursday after a negotiation in record time after the foreign ministers agreed on retaliation on Monday if the involvement of Iran in the drone attacks was confirmed. The agreement has come before starting the summit of heads of state and government of the EU in Brussels.

In this way, the EU raises the tone against Iran and approves the second round of sanctions in just a few days, after formally adopting measures on Monday against 15 Iranian individuals and entities responsible for the repression of the demonstrations for the death in police custody of the young Mahsa Amini, including the head of the Morale Police, Mohamed Rostami.
