The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, has resigned just a month and a half after taking office after losing the confidence of his party. 24 hours after proclaiming in Parliament that she is “a fighter and not a deserter”, the pressure of her ‘colleagues’ has dynamited her already few options to continue.
“This morning I met with the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. We have agreed that there will be an election of a leader, which will take place next week. This will ensure that we stay on track to meet our fiscal plans, economic stability, and the national security of our country. I will remain prime minister until a successor is chosen,” Truss told a brief Downing Street appearance.

Truss has reported that it has notified Charles III her resignation and recalled that she was elected leader of the Conservative Party “with the mandate to change things”, something that, she has admitted, she has not been able to “fulfil”.

The 1922 Committee, which brings together conservative deputies without responsibilities in the Government or Parliament, had ruled hours before: Truss should resign. It is not an official organ of the party but it is influential.
