BERLIN, Oct. 19 (DPA/EP) –
The Government is already finalizing the details of the reform with which it aspires to legalize the possession and sale of cannabis, in which the possession of up to 20 grams will be authorized for those over 18 years of age and the advertising of the product will be prohibited in general terms .
The draft also includes specific regulations for young people, according to the RND media conglomerate, although the Government prefers not to make an official statement for now, waiting for the project to be completely agreed upon.
The text would authorize the domestic cultivation of up to two plants and would limit the proportion of the THC substance in legal tender cannabis to 15 percent. For people between 18 and 21 years old, this percentage will be reduced to 10 percent, with the aim of avoiding brain damage.
The “controlled distribution of cannabis for adults for the purpose of consumption in authorized stores” is among the commitments of the ‘traffic light’ coalition made up of Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals. The Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach, has predicted a final text at the end of the year and foresees the start of the parliamentary procedures for 2023.
The Government estimates that some four million adults who use cannabis in Germany and, according to Lauterbach, its use in a moderate and safe way “is part of a modern society.”
