The authorities of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (PLR), annexed to Russia after an accession referendum, have reported that, for a week, border controls with the rest of Russian territory have been eliminated.

As reported by the governor of the RPL, Leonid Pasechnik, “all checkpoints have been abolished” and the border guards who are still on duty are only limited to “protecting property”, according to the Russian agency TASS.

The government of the region has thus complied with the instructions of the State Customs Committee of the RPL, which had called for the removal of border posts with the Russian regions of Belgorod, Voronezh and Rostov.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, legitimized by the results of a series of accession referendums that, however, were not recognized by Ukraine or by a large part of the international community.
