“It is deeply unfortunate that specific political motives, in addition to being based on baseless and distorted information and fabricated claims by alleged representatives of the Iranian nation and its affiliated media, are the basis for such a misguided and unconstructive decision,” Kanani said. , according to a statement collected by the state news agency IRNA.
Prior to the decision by the EU, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman had already warned that in the event that the European club continued down this path, Tehran would respond “proportionally and reciprocally”, although it did not specify that this decision entailed sanctions against institutions European.
The foreign ministers of the bloc meeting in Luxembourg approved this Monday to extend the existing sanctions for human rights violations in Iran in order to respond to the situation unleashed in the country after the death of the 22-year-old woman arrested for allegedly wearing the veil incorrectly, which has led to protests violently repressed by Tehran.
The sanctions taken by the EU extend to four entities of the Iranian security forces, including the Morale Police, and several of their local and regional officials for the “brutal” repression of the protests, and to the Iranian Minister of Information himself. and Communications, Isa Zarepour, for his role in the Government’s decision to “systematically violate the freedom of opinion and expression of the Iranian people by limiting access to the Internet during the protests.”
