Argentina asks Qatar to arrest Iranian Vice President Mohsen Rezai for the AMIA attack

The Argentine Government has requested this Monday to Qatar the arrest of the Vice President of Economic Affairs of Iran, Mohsen Rezai, for his alleged involvement in the attack of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) in Buenos Aires, in which 85 people died in 1994 .

The Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, would have sent a letter to Qatar recalling that an international arrest warrant weighs on Rezai, according to sources consulted by the Argentine newspaper ‘La Nación’.

The message was sent after a notice from prosecutor Sebastián Basso, head of the AMIA Prosecutor’s Office, who warned him of Rezai’s presence in Qatar since Sunday night.

Basso asked the Foreign Ministry to “activate the diplomatic and foreign policy mechanisms that they deem appropriate to comply with the judicial arrest warrant for Rezai, who is on a red alert issued by Interpol for his alleged participation in the attack against the AMIA and who, as it appears from different pages on the Internet, traveled to the State of Qatar”.

Rezai is in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to participate in an exhibition of Iranian companies before the soccer World Cup. She also traveled to closely follow the agreements reached between senior Iranian and Qatari officials. Upon his arrival, Rezai was received by the Qatari deputy foreign minister and the Iranian ambassador in Doha.

On Mohsen Rezai, there is a red alert issued by Interpol for his alleged participation in the attack against the AMIA, with an international arrest warrant ordered by the former judge in the Rodolfo Canicoba Corral case on November 9, 2006. Rezai was commander of the Guard Revolutionary at the time of the attack.

In January, Rezai was already in Nicaragua in an official act, where the Argentine ambassador to that country, Daniel Capitanich, was, and he was not arrested by the government of Daniel Ortega, who invited him to assume a new term as president of that country. . After the trip, Argentina condemned the presence of the fugitive in Managua.
