Xiaomi has announced that it will discontinue its service GallerySync, which will no longer be compatible with Xiaomi Cloud, and will offer users the Google Photos photo manager for content migration to the cloud.
Gallery Sync is a function developed by the Chinese company that is responsible for storing and synchronizing the device’s multimedia content, such as images or videos, in your ‘cloud’ service.
The Chinese manufacturer has decided to stop supporting this function and make way for the Google Photos file sharing application, with which it has reached an agreement to facilitate content migration and backup.
“[Los usuarios] they will also have the option to download the content to another local Xiaomi device or PC from the Xiaomi Cloud web portal,” reads the announcement document, deleted shortly after by the company and is still held in archive.org.
This document also includes the timeline for the end of support for Gallery Sync, although the dates on which it will take place are not specified in the absence of an official announcement of this discontinuation. Initially, in 2022, the gallery sync features.
Thereafter, the Xiaomi Cloud Gallery Sync service cannot be purchased and the last membership fee will be refunded if it was paid before this announcement. Also at that time the Google Photos data migration and download options will be available directly in the Xiaomi Gallery.
On the other hand, already in 2023, the manufacturer will disable the data download options and will end the migration functions of Google Photos. Existing Gallery data saved in the cloud will also be removed.
In addition, Xiaomi has recalled that users who need additional cloud storage space to move their content from Xiaomi Cloud to Photos will be able to try the service of Google One. To transfer data to Google Photos, it can be done through the Gallery application itself or from Xiaomi Cloud.
