The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has described the current regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin as “terrorist”.

“The Assembly has asked the member states of the Council of Europe to declare the current Russian regime ‘terrorist’,” the PACE statement read.

PACE has “strongly” condemned Russia’s attempted annexation of four Ukrainian regions, claiming that the “so-called referendums” are “null and without legal or political effect.”

Also, in a resolution adopted unanimously, parliamentarians have called for a court to judge Moscow.

“The parliamentarians called for a ‘comprehensive system’ to hold the Russian Federation and its leaders accountable for its aggression and violations of human rights and humanitarian law, including the swift establishment of an ad hoc tribunal to prosecute crimes of aggression,” it adds. the missive.

“Russia’s growing threats of nuclear war are incompatible with the responsibilities of a nuclear power that has a permanent seat on the Council,” the parliamentarians criticized.

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, welcomed the Assembly’s decision: “We have a powerful response from PACE, which is the first international organization to designate the current Russian regime as terrorist.”

“It is very important that this is a political signal, a signal to all states, both members of the Council of Europe and the rest of the world. There is nothing to talk about with this terrorist group, which has appropriated Russia and unleashed the most atrocious war in Europe in 80 years,” said the Ukrainian president.

Thus, Zelensky has asserted that “terror must be met with force at all levels: on the battlefield, with sanctions and with laws.”

The leader has also made reference to the proposal to create a special court for Moscow to assume the responsibilities of the war and has thanked the institution for the measures made public.

“I am grateful to all our partners in the Council of Europe who work for justice for Ukraine and for our entire continent,” he said, before thanking the Ukrainian PACE delegation “for a really effective job.”
