The head of Iran’s judicial apparatus, Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejei, on Thursday called on the country’s judges not to issue “weak sentences” against those involved in the “riots” recorded after the death in custody of a woman detained in the capital, Tehran, for allegedly wearing the veil wrong.
Ejei has asked the judges to “avoid naivety” and “undue sympathy” when dealing with the cases of the “mainly involved in the disturbances”, as well as to “differentiate” between the “ringleaders” and “less people”. guilty”, according to the Iranian news agency Mehr.
“Mistaken compassion and weak verdicts are the main elements of oppression of the people and the future,” he said, although he recognized that “some elements of reconciliation must be considered” when dealing with the cases of “less guilty people” in the incidents.
Ejei has also pointed out that “the hands of the enemies can be seen maneuvering behind the scenes” when it comes to fueling the protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, which have resulted in the death of nearly 200 people, as reported by the organization non-governmental Iran Human Rights.
Finally, he has demanded that the authorities and the judicial system “work constantly, diligently and sincerely, to serve the people and the Islamic system.”
Iran’s Forensic Medicine Organization said last week that Mahsa Amini’s death was not due to any “blow to the head or to the vital organs of his body” and they estimate it was caused by “multiple organ failure” stemming from a problem. from the heart due to a previous pathology, after the police rejected the accusations of torture.
For his part, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, accused the United States and Israel of being behind the “riots” in the context of the protests. “I explicitly say that these riots and security incidents were engineered by the United States and the fake and usurping Zionist regime — in reference to Israel –,” he settled.
