Ship traffic on the Bosphorus has been temporarily suspended after a ship full of grain ran aground due to mechanical failure off the coastal city of Türkeli, Turkey’s Directorate General for Coastal Safety reported.
“While sailing, the 190-meter-long bulk carrier called ‘Annitta’ had a mechanical failure off the coast of Türkeli,” he said, adding that, after running aground, the vessel was towed under the coordination of the Service Center. of Istanbul Vessel Traffic, according to a statement collected by the state news agency Anatolia.
After the towing tasks, the boat has been anchored in a neighborhood of the Sariyer district in Istanbul. Subsequently, the Turkish authorities have reported that the suspended traffic will be reopened from 1:30 a.m. (local time).
The Istanbul coordination center carries out joint inspections of ships loaded with Ukrainian grain that cross the Black Sea to the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey. Thus, it is in charge of guaranteeing that the vessels do not carry weapons or combat material after entering and leaving the ports.
