The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, stressed on Thursday that his main objective is to “stop the bloodshed as soon as possible” due to the war in Ukraine, triggered on February 24 by order of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
“Our objective is to maintain the momentum despite the difficulties on the ground and stop the bloodshed as soon as possible,” he said in a speech during the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Measures in Asia (CICA) that is being held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana.
Thus, he pointed out that the agreement reached in July for the reopening of Ukrainian ports for the export of Ukraine and the exchange of prisoners between kyiv and Moscow in September are “tangible achievements” through the mediation of Ankara and the United Nations.
Erdogan, who will meet this Thursday with Putin in Astana, has also emphasized that “a just peace can be achieved through diplomacy,” according to the Turkish state news agency, Anatolia. “There will be no winners in war and there will be no losers with a just peace,” he added.
