Oct. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Burmese Justice has sentenced Toru Kubota, a Japanese journalist, who was already sentenced last week to ten years in prison for sedition and violation of telecommunications laws, to another three years in prison.
Now, the journalist and documentary filmmaker has been found guilty of violating the immigration law, for which the sentence provides for another three years in prison in addition to the previous sentence, according to information from the newspaper ‘Asahi’.
The 26-year-old was arrested in Rangoon by Burmese junta forces last July after charges were leveled against him for recording protests against the junta after entering the country without a visa.
The Japanese Embassy in Burma has confirmed that it will continue to urge the Burmese military junta that has ruled the country since the February 2021 coup to release the journalist as soon as possible.
