Ukrainian authorities on Tuesday accused Russia of having crossed a new “red line” by hitting diplomatic facilities of third countries during the latest bombing carried out by Russian forces against kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko lamented that during the attacks “against civilian infrastructure” carried out on Monday, Russian troops “targeted foreign diplomatic institutions.”
“One of the bombardments hit the visa-issuing office of the German Embassy in the country, which is located in the center of kyiv, and also caused damage to the building that houses the staff of the European Union advisory mission. “, he asserted.
Thus, he stressed that as a result of these attacks, “there has been damage to the embassies and the life and health of foreign diplomats and employees have been put in danger.”
“Russia has crossed a new red line with these criminal actions. Attacks on foreign diplomatic facilities are a war crime, a serious violation of the Vienna Convention,” he said.
In this sense, he has asked the international community to condemn these bombings and to increase pressure against the Kremlin through the use of sanctions and by sending anti-missile defense systems.
However, he has guaranteed that the Foreign Ministry is prepared to deliver the necessary assistance to diplomatic missions and restore damaged infrastructure, in addition to opening an investigation into these alleged crimes.
