Oct. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Philippine Police on Sunday killed three prisoners linked to the Islamic State jihadist organization who took a former senator hostage during an escape attempt at a prison in the country’s capital, Manila.

The head of the Philippine National Police, General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., has confirmed to the ABS-CBN network that former senator Leila de Lima is safe and unharmed and that the crisis is over.

De Lima, 63, a staunch critic of former President Rodrigo Duterte, was arrested on drug charges on February 24, 2017, after a lengthy public dispute in which the former president accused her of immorality and receiving money from drug sources. .

Prisoners Arnel Cabintoy, Feliciano Sulayao Jr and Idang Susukan, the latter former leader of the terrorist organization Abu Sayyaf, related to the Islamic State, have been killed by agents.

There is also evidence of a prison agent who was injured by prisoners with a knife during their escape. He is now hospitalized and his life is not in danger.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has stated that he will speak with De Lima after the incident “to verify her condition and ask if she wishes to be transferred to another detention center.”
