Oct. 7 (Portaltic/EP) –
Blizzard has temporarily disabled the Overwatch 2 servers to implement a series of bug fixes that have been occurring since its official launch on Tuesday, October 4.
This second installment of the franchise, which replaces the first, was presented as a “free permanent service” for PC, Xbox One and Series X/S platforms, PlayStation 4 and 5 and Nintendo Switch.
On the same day of its launch, it suffered two massive denial of service (DDoS) attacks, which caused its servers to crash, which stopped allowing new players to access the title, as reported by the developer through Twitter.
Since then, the company has been working on these problems and this Thursday it has decided to deactivate its servers to implement the pertinent corrections, as it has advanced in a recent update posted on the official forums.
The inactivity of its services has been recorded from 12 midnight (Spanish time) on Thursday until one in the morning on Friday. Next, another break has been made from three to six in the morning, approximately, on the same day. During this time, players have been unable to access Overwatch 2.
Among the errors noticed, Blizzard highlights some related to the combination of accounts, the login or the integration of new players in the system, of which it has already implemented its corresponding corrections.
On the other hand, the developer has pointed out that it has carried out “significant” updates in their databases to address player queues generated by server malfunctions.
The company has also announced that it has chosen to remove phone number requirements for most players with profiles already created in Overwatch. In this way, any user with an account on Battle.net (that is, all those who have played the title since June 9, 2021), will be able to access the video game without providing their mobile.
However, it has indicated that players who were not linked to Battle.net, as well as new accounts, will have to comply with the SMS protection requirements. The developer has stressed that this helps ensure there are no cheats in the user community.
