Oct. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of the Netherlands has recommended all its citizens in Iran to leave the country and refrain from traveling there after changing its travel alert this Friday from “orange” to “red” due to the crisis unleashed in the Islamic republic as a result of the protests over the death of the young Mahsa Amini in police custody for improperly wearing the veil.
“My advice is that the Dutch who are there leave the country,” declared the Foreign Minister, Wopke Hoekstra, in comments collected by the official ANP news agency, after confirming a red travel alert to Iran, for which declares the country too dangerous to visit and warns that the government may be unable to help in the event of trouble.
It should be remembered that the Iranian authorities announced last week the arrest of at least nine foreign nationals in connection with the protests, one of them from the Netherlands.
The Foreign Ministry has not yet had contact with this person and the Embassy in Tehran is trying to contact the person through the Iranian authorities.
The death of the young woman after being arrested for wearing the Islamic veil wrongly has caused a wave of indignation both in a part of Iranian society, and more unanimously at the international level.
There have been numerous demonstrations in various cities in Iran, including Tehran, in which numerous women have thrown off their veils and cut their hair in protest. For their part, the authorities have virulently repressed these gatherings, leaving at least 154 dead, according to the latest counts by the non-governmental organization Iran Human Rights (IHR).
