The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, has pointed out that the joint candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Ukraine to host the 2030 World Cup is “more than a symbol of faith” in victory in the war against Russia.
“Ukraine will resist, prevail and be rebuilt thanks to the solidarity of its partners. Grateful for the support of Spain and Portugal,” Zelenski said in a post on his Twitter profile in which he mentioned the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez , and the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa.
Ukraine has officially joined this Wednesday the candidacy of Spain and Portugal to organize the World Cup in 2030, the three parties confirmed at a joint press conference in Nyon (Switzerland), UEFA headquarters.
The candidacy has the support of UEFA, and is intended to “build bridges and project a message of unity, solidarity and generosity on the part of all European football”, according to the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales .
