The US condemns the launch of a North Korean ballistic missile on Japan and describes it as "destabilizing"

Oct. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United States government has “strongly” condemned the launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea on Japan in the early hours of Tuesday.

“This action is destabilizing and shows the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s blatant disregard for United Nations Security Council resolutions and international security standards,” said Adrienne Watson, spokeswoman for the US National Security Advisor.

Watson has reported that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has contacted his counterparts in Japan and South Korea, Akiba Takeo and Kim Sung Han respectively.

“In both calls, advisers consulted on appropriate and robust joint and international responses,” Watson said in a White House statement.

In addition, Washington has reiterated its “strong commitments” with both countries against North Korea. “The United States will continue its efforts to limit North Korea’s ability to advance its prohibited WMD ballistic missile programs,” she said.

The governments of Japan and South Korea announced on Tuesday that Pyongyang had launched a ballistic missile that would have fallen into the Pacific Ocean, flying over part of the territory of the Japanese country, a fact that had not happened since 2017, five years ago.

The Japanese government has issued a warning about the launch of the North Korean missile to the population of the prefectures of Hokkaido and Aomori, in the north of the country, urging residents in the affected regions to immediately take cover to save themselves.
