The European Union has called this Friday for calm in Burkina Faso after the explosions and military movements registered this morning in the capital, Ouagadougou, and which raise fears of a military coup.
“The EU is following the worrying situation in Burkina Faso, we have seen explosions and military movements since dawn and the situation continues to be confused and variable,” said the EU Foreign Affairs spokeswoman, Nabila Massrali, at a press conference from Brussels.
In this sense, he pointed out that community diplomacy is in contact with the European delegation in the African country. “The EU hopes that the situation calms down quickly and the Burkinabe people remain united at this time,” he said, who has not yet indicated whether the EU will evacuate its personnel from Burkina Faso.
Ouagadougou has been the scene this Friday of an explosion and intense shooting, which has been followed by a major military deployment, without the causes of the event being known at the moment.
According to information collected by the Burkina Faso news portal Infowakat, the explosion took place in the surroundings of the capital’s airport, after which the military took up positions in important points of the city.
