After years of erratic performance that never enjoyed the appreciation of other platforms like NVIDIA GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming, Google has announced that Stadia will shut down on January 18, 2023so that users who have pending game sessions have until that date to finish everything they want to finish doing, whether they are pending games or trying new titles.
Google explains that while the technology behind Stadia was good, the service hasn’t gained as much traction as they’d like, so The “difficult” decision has been made to close the service completely, instead of trying to improve it to save it.
Interestingly, Google also indicates that All Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, as well as all game and add-on purchases made through the Stadia Store, will be refundedso that in some cases, some users will see how Google returns several hundred euros to certain users.
Nothing is mentioned about subscription amounts, which probably won’t be refunded, but if it is dropped that refunds won’t be magically done in one day, but it will take until mid-January 2023 to process all of them.
