The United States Coast Guard tried Wednesday to rescue 23 migrants whose boat capsized in the waters off the Florida Keys, the border patrol announced.
The migrants could be Cuban because that is the route regularly used by those fleeing the island.
Walter Slosar, chief of the Miami region border patrol, reported on Twitter that agents responded to the arrival of migrants on Stock Island.
“Four migrants swam to shore when their boat capsized due to bad weather,” the officer explained. The area has been severely affected in recent hours by Hurricane Ian.
He added that the operation to find the other castaways continues.
