Two women and a vehicle remain unaccounted for after falling to the bottom of a hole that formed in a road that leads to the center of the municipality of Villa Nueva, very close to Guatemala City.
The situation was recorded last Saturday afternoon, when, product of the rains, two holes of approximately 6 and 10 meters long appeared in the middle of the track. Videos from the traffic cameras show how the first car is passing when it falls head-on into the hole that was forming at around 5:28 p.m. Minutes later, another vehicle falls into the second hole.
Since then, the search work began, which managed to rescue four people who were inside the vehicles. However, two women, mother and daughter according to statements by a survivor, remain unaccounted for, as well as the first vehicle that fell.
The situation has been complicated by the instability of the terrain, even the authorities desisted from using heavy machinery due to the vibrations generated by the weight and that could cause new cracks or put the life of the rescuers who work in the place at risk, for which They indicated that they will continue with the search manually.
In addition, according to statements by the mayor of the municipality of Villa Nueva, Javier Gramajo, the origin of the sinking is a failure in the main collector, and he indicated that through the excavations the collector was reached and a large cavern was observed where thinks the missing vehicle might be.
Relatives of the two missing women have remained at the scene asking for the search to continue and praying that they will soon be located, although hopes of finding them alive are almost nil after more than 60 hours.
