South Korea's president pays tribute to victims of Daejeon shopping mall fire

Sep. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, visited the city of Daejeon, in the center of the country, on Tuesday to pay tribute to the victims of a fire registered in a shopping center, where seven people have died.

The president thus visited the altar installed in the area after the event, which took place on Monday at the Hyundai Premium Outlet shopping center, about 160 kilometers from Seoul, the country’s capital. Yoon was in the city of Sejong on Monday presiding over a meeting, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.

The authorities have launched a series of operations to confirm the exact extent of the damage and have opened an investigation to discern the causes of the fire. Some 110 people had to be evacuated from the building and several nearby homes.

The security forces are considering the possibility that the fire originated in an electric vehicle parked in the parking lot of the shopping center, which could have suffered some type of deflagration.
