The death toll this Tuesday from the consequences of super typhoon ‘Noru’, known in the Philippines as ‘Karding’, has increased to eight victims.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has reported that the number of victims has increased from five to eight, including five of them rescuers. The deceased come from the provinces of Bulacan, Zambales, Batan and Quezon, regions most affected by the natural disaster.
In addition, more than 60,000 people are displaced by the floods and landslides after the passage of ‘Noru’ through the island of Luzon, according to GMA News.
Local authorities have reported, in turn, the disappearance of three other people in the eastern province of Camarines Norte, and have estimated agricultural damage at 160 million Philippine pesos (2.8 million euros).
The typhoon entered the Philippines on Sunday with sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour, while gusts of up to 240 kilometers per hour were recorded. However, its strength weakened upon landfall. On Tuesday ‘Noru’ moved away from the country, although it is expected to bring heavy rain in the coming days.
