Earlier this week, HBO and PlayStation surprised the community with the first official trailer for the series inspired by The Last of Us. Although this production seems to follow many of the events that we saw in Naughty Dog’s work to the letter, there will be some changes and totally new characters that have the potential to alter elements of the original plot.
In declarations for the portal polygonalan HBO representative confirmed that New Zealand actress Melanie Lynskey, who we will recognize from her role as Rose in the comedy Two and Half Menwill play Kathleen, an original character who does not appear in the 2013 video game. The actress confirmed her participation in the project on Twitter.

Specifically, Kathleen will be “a ruthless leader of a revolutionary movement in Kansas City.” In case you didn’t know, in the game we follow Ellie and Joel’s journey across the United States, although part of the journey is omitted and we only know the most important events.
Precisely, much of the trip through the center of the country is conspicuous by its absence in the original work. It seems that the HBO production will try to fill that void, since the protagonists will pass through Kansas City. In fact, it will be in that city where Henry and his brother Sam will appear.
Those responsible for the live-action series revealed that Henry and Sam “try to hide from a revolutionary movement that seeks revenge.” Everything seems to indicate that Kathleen will be the leader behind this violent group. Finally, we must remember that, in the Naughty Dog game, Ellie and Joel meet the brothers in Pittsburgh.

Kathleen will not be the only new character we will meet in this production. We say this because the actors Graham Greene and Elaine Miles are part of the cast of this HBO project and will give life to original characters.
Of course, it remains to be seen if the change in the backstory of brothers Henry and Sam has any significant impact. Likewise, we do not know if the Kansas City sequence, which does not appear in the video game, will be of great relevance or if it will change the course of the general plot.
