France 24 en Español celebrates five years and premieres three new programs

The chain has established itself as a benchmark among international content channels in Latin America in this time. 18 of the 19 Spanish-speaking territories can now enjoy its signal and its expansion through the digital sphere has grown notably to reach one million subscribers on YouTube.

On September 26, 2017, France 24 began broadcasting the network in Spanish from its headquarters in the city of Bogotá. An important challenge that has become a project in constant growth and that five years after its birth can say that it has established itself as one of the leading international news channels in Latin America.

Originally, France 24 en Español began broadcasting for six hours a day, but as the chain gained notoriety in the Latin American news scene, its broadcasts increased to 12 hours a day in 2019 and 24 in 2021. Some numbers that reflect its consolidation between the five most followed international information channels in Latin America.

The France 24 en Español newsroom is made up of up to 70 journalists from different countries such as Colombia, Spain, Cuba, France or Venezuela and has the support of more than 50 correspondents in Latin America and the rest of the world. In addition, the channel in Spanish of France 24 has the support of the editorial staff of Radio France International (RFI) and the channels in English, French and Arabic installed in Paris.

The signal of France 24 in Spanish has reached in these five years 18 of the 19 Spanish-speaking countries, in addition to Brazil and the United States. In total, it is available in 17 million homes, in addition to another 12 million partial broadcasts in Mexico.

Driven by the success of its linear and digital offerings, France 24 en Español attracts nearly 3 million viewers each week in Colombia, Mexico and Argentina. In the digital sphere, the channel registers 3 million visits each month and recorded more than 150 million video views in the first half of 2022. On YouTube it reached more than one million subscribers.

Three new programs premiere on screen

On the occasion of its fifth anniversary, France 24 en Español decided to expand its schedule with three new programs that will complement the network’s news offer.

The first of them is A week in the world, where the experienced Colombian presenter Santiago López, in a round table with guests, will review the events that have marked the international news of the week. Its broadcast will be available every Friday at 7:20 pm (Bogotá, Lima, Quito time).

On the other hand, the Spanish journalist Marina Sardiña will be in charge of leading the space orient express, where you will address the latest political and social news from the Middle East with reports from our correspondents. It will be broadcast every other Thursday at 8:45 pm (Bogotá, Lima, Quito time).

The last of the premieres will be that’s asia, a program that will be in charge of the Colombian journalist Paula Jiménez where reports, chronicles and exclusive analysis of the political and social current affairs of the entire Asian continent will be shown. Its broadcast will be every two Thursdays at 8:45 pm (Bogotá, Lima, Quito time).
