Turkey accuses Greece of launching armored vehicles on demilitarized Aegean islands

Sep. 25 () –

Turkish military drones have recorded videos that would show that Greece is deploying armored military vehicles on Aegean islands with non-militarized status, thus breaking international law.

The videos would record the landing of armored vehicles donated by the United States on the islands of Lesbos and Samos, according to the official Turkish news agency, Anatolia, citing military sources.

Specifically, it would be two landing ships that unloaded 23 tactical armored vehicles for Lesbos and another 18 in Samos between September 18 and 21.

“These acts of attacks against international law and against the spirit of alliance despite calls for dialogue and good neighborliness are unacceptable,” according to the source consulted by Anatolia. Turkey shows its willingness to dialogue “despite the fact that Greece does not even attend the meetings” and despite these “provocations”.

The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Dendias, has assured in an interview published this Sunday by the newspaper ‘Kathimerini’ that the differences between Greece and Turkey could be resolved if Ankara accepted the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
