Kyrgyzstan raises to 62 the dead of its side due to the fighting on the border with Tajikistan

Sep. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Kyrgyz authorities have raised the number of dead Kyrgyz in the recent clashes on the border with Tajikistan to 62, whose latest balance speaks of 46 dead.

In this way, the tensions unleashed during the last week between the two Asian countries have claimed the lives of at least 108 people, according to the data provided to date by the authorities of both sides.

These latest clashes between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which share about a thousand kilometers of border – a third of which is in dispute – are the deadliest since 2021, when fifty people died.

Dushanbe and Bishkek reached a ceasefire agreement by virtue of which, in addition, several key points on the border were cleared, although both countries have accused each other of violating the agreement.

The lack of clear demarcation on the border has led to disputes over the use of land and water resources, with frequent clashes between border guards from one country and another and brawls between the communities that were separated after the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
