Former Vice Minister of Public Security Sentenced to Death in China for Taking Bribes

Sep. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

A Chinese court has sentenced former Vice Minister of Public Security Sun Lijun to death on Friday for accepting bribes, a sentence that will be suspended for two years, just one day after this same sentence was handed down against a former Justice Minister for corruption.

Sun has also been deprived of his political rights and all his properties have been confiscated as part of the ruling, which contemplates that, once the two-year suspension period has elapsed, the sentence could be commuted to life imprisonment, without the possibility of released on bail, according to the Chinese newspaper ‘Global Times’.

The court has also sentenced Sun to eight years in prison for manipulating the stock market and five years for illegal possession of weapons, although these sentences would be served in parallel if the sentence is finally commuted and he spends the rest of his life. in prison

This same court sentenced former Justice Minister Fu Zhenghua to death on Thursday for prevarication and bribery, a sentence that has also been suspended for a period of two years. Fu was found guilty of taking bribes worth 117 million yuan (about 16.7 million euros) and taking advantage of his position for personal gain.
