Super Mario 64 is a truly legendary and influential game. Without him, 3D gaming might have gone in a completely different direction. Thanks to Forest of Illusion, a video game preservation site focused on Nintendo, an internal Nintendo report from 1996 recently came to light. It contains images of different company products such as the Nintendo 64 and the Virtual Boy.

What is most striking about the report is that it presents screenshots of a development version of Super Mario 64. It features a scenario that didn’t make it into the final game, which could be part of a level that was cut from the final version.

It’s important to note that no one within Nintendo has made any public comment on this scenario. In this way, we do not know exactly what these images correspond to. It’s possible that it’s a level that was completely scrapped, or maybe it’s one that mutated into Big Boo’s Haunt. There’s also a chance that it’s a part of this level that didn’t make it into the final game.

Whatever it is, it’s a piece of Nintendo history and Super Mario 64 that fans will surely appreciate. Especially since it’s not every day that new information emerges about a game that debuted in mid-1996.
