The Colombian Transport Minister, Guillermo Francisco Reyes González, met in Caracas with his Venezuelan counterpart, Ramón Celestino Velásquez Araguayán, to advance the reopening of the border between both countries.

At the meeting, the details that will allow the movement of passengers and cargo to start from the next September 26. After this decision, Colombian and Venezuelan citizens will be able to cross the border by land, air and river.
“This reopening, which was achieved thanks to dialogue, agreement and the willingness to seek solutions that benefit the communities, It will once again unite two brother towns, improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the border region and generate greater employment and investment opportunities,” said Minister Reyes.
It was also confirmed that on September 26, Conviasa will make the first charter flight between Caracas and Bogotá; while from Colombian soil, Wingo will make the first trip on October 3.

In principle, both companies will have two to four weekly frequencies, and it is expected that more airlines will fly new routes, once the protocols are finished to authorize their operations.
In addition, for vehicular passage, the two authorized bridges will be the Simón Bolívar and the Francisco de Paula Santander. In both it will be authorized the loading step between 7 pm and 6 am
Minister Reyes González explained that, temporarily, the trucks will arrive at a point in the other country and transfer the cargo to national trucks, while the protocols are made and the situation gradually normalizes.
For pedestrian traffic, a passage protocol will be adapted, and there will be no restriction in relation to river navigation.
