“Many times in history, assassinations have been prologues to great tragedies. Based on the rejection or hatred towards the victims, those who perpetrated such actions broke the public peace and opened the doors to enormous social disputes. Entire peoples succumbed behind these prophets of hate”, underlined the president of Argentina at the beginning of his speech on the podium of the UN General Assembly.
Alberto Fernández continued his speech by saying that the recent attempt to assassinate the vice president of his country not only affected public tranquility, but also sought to alter the collective construction of democracyrecovered almost four decades ago after seven years of military dictatorship.
In this context, he recalled that the Argentines agreed to respond with a “never again” to state terrorism and political violence and he trusted that the “fascist violence disguised as republicanism” will not be able to change that decision.
Fernandez argued that extremist and violent speeches spread in today’s societies taking advantage of the unease generated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic effects of war in order to weaken and erode democracies.
“Remaining silent in the face of such evidence can lead us to put the rule of law in crisis,” he warned, arguing that those who promote extreme polarization have specific interests that do not benefit the majority.
humanity is at risk

“Humanity is at risk. With humility, Argentina extends a call to all the countries of the world to build a new global paradigm that ensures prosperity with social justice”, Fernández pointed out.
The president urged the States to work in a joint and solidary way that strengthens multilateralism and gives rise to a greater equity to reduce social gaps.
For this, he added, it is necessary to solve the problems peacefully through dialogue.
No to the financial demands of the developed world
With regard to the economic sphere, he argued that it is necessary to abandon the economic and financial practices that the developed world demands of the world that tries to develop, since this model will continue to increase poverty and marginalization.
From the Argentine experience, one of the most indebted economies in the world, he highlighted the suffering caused by the weight of enormous debts and endorsed the provisions of the UN General Assembly to restructure credits promoting sustained and inclusive growth, minimizing economic and social costs, guaranteeing the stability of the international financial system and respecting human rights.
Fernández also addressed the topic of food insecurity, emphasizing that it should be ensure fairer international trade in agricultural productstransparent, equitable and predictable that contributes to alleviating the scourge of hunger.
“We cannot go through this time with famines”, he delimited and reiterated Argentina’s commitment as a reliable producer and exporter of nutritious and quality food.
He added that his country is working to guarantee environmental sustainability and food and energy security, but added that all efforts it will be in vain without a more equitable economic and social development framework.
development for all
The Argentine leader pointed out that development must reach all people and stressed that the planet’s environmental situation requires a firm and determined action in favor of future generations.
“Ecological problems need everyone’s involvement. They require a constructive relationship between states and societies. A vital partnership, without which sustainable development becomes illusory”, he explained.
He also stressed that not all countries are equally responsible for the climate crisis and advocated differentiating the requirements that are made and the support they need.
