The United Kingdom will equal or exceed the 2,300 million pounds (2,620 million euros) that it has promised to contribute to Ukraine’s war effort against Russia during the year 2022, according to the British newspaper ‘Financial Times’.
British Prime Minister Liz Truss will announce this milestone during her visit to New York to participate in the UN General Assembly, where she will reiterate her commitment to support Ukraine in the long term.
With this amount of money, the United Kingdom will position itself as the second largest military donor to Ukraine, only behind the United States, as detailed by Downing Street and collected by the aforementioned newspaper.
In addition to providing Ukraine with funding and weapons, the UK has trained 27,000 members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2015. Added to this are hundreds of rockets, five air defense systems, 120 armored vehicles and other equipment.
During the campaign to seize power from the Conservative Party, Truss promised the Ukrainian people to continue the policy of his predecessor, Boris Johnson, in terms of supporting Ukraine.
Truss’s trip to New York, where he will meet with the president of the United States, Joe Biden, the French president, Emmanuel Macron, or the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will mark the return to political normality of the United Kingdom.
