Well-known Russian singer Alla Pugacheva has asked the Ministry of Justice to designate her as a “foreign agent” in solidarity with her husband, Maxim Galkin, who has been designated as such for criticizing the Russian military intervention in Ukraine.
Pugacheva, who until now had remained aloof from political issues, has published a message on Instagram addressed to her 3.4 million followers in which she asks for her appointment and supports Galkin in his request to stop the bleeding of Russian lives for ” illusory goals. The message has more than 298,000 likes.
Galkin was classified as a “foreign agent” on Friday, a legal status commonly used as a tool against dissent and independent journalists.
Pugacheva is now 73 years old, but she became famous as a pop singer in Russia long before Vladimir Putin became President of the country.
