The US president, Joe Biden, visited the burning chapel of Queen Elizabeth II this Sunday and stressed that it was “an honor” to meet the monarch, whom he said reminded him of his mother.
Biden has explained when questioned about the reason why Elizabeth II reminded her mother that it was “because of how she leaned slightly, because of how she looked at you as if to say ‘Are you okay? Can I do something for you? What do you need? ‘ and then: ‘Make sure you do what you have to do'”.
“To all the people of England, all the people of the UK: our hearts go out to you. You are lucky to have had her for 70 years. We all were. The world is a better place because of her.”
“The American press has heard me say what I think for a long time. It may be too much, if you’ll excuse me for being Irish: it’s about treating people with dignity,” he explained.
Biden thus recalled that both his mother and father “believed that everyone, whoever they were, whatever their situation, wherever they came from, deserved to be treated with dignity. And that is exactly what he conveyed (the queen ) as he walked, with his actions”.
“I think what he gave us is a sense that is above service. We all owe him something. There is something within our ability to do things. Not only to make the world better, but to make our neighborhood better, our house, our place of work. That is what she transmitted to me and it has been an honor to meet her”, she concluded.
Biden has traveled to the British capital to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, scheduled for this Monday.
