Cyberpunk 2077 triumphs on Steam after the premiere of the Netflix anime

Despite the numerous controversies that revolved around it, Cyberpunk 2077 it shipped millions of copies and, even more incredible, it forged a faithful community. Months passed and his reputation improved thanks to patches and new content, although the bad reputation never completely disappeared. Now, it seems that both old and new players decided to visit Night City after the premiere of a neighboring project.

In case you don’t know, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series produced by Trigger Studio that is inspired by the controversial CD Projekt RED video game, joined the Netflix catalog earlier this week. Apparently, this production met the expectations of the audience.

The popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam increased after the premiere of the animated series

Shortly after the anime premiered, the open world RPG title saw a significant rise in popularity on Valve’s platform. According to data from Steam Charts, it reached a peak of 46,612 concurrent players during the last 24 hours, which represents the best number since February of this year. For context, in August it peaked at 18,695 concurrent users.

Mind you, the rise in popularity was a mutual effort. We say this because the video game received an update that introduced content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and other news, which could motivate players to return to the science fiction title.

Cyberpunk 2077 will receive its first baptized expansion phantom liberty sometime in 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Google STADIA, and PC. While this will be the last substantial DLC the title will receive, CD Projekt RED has already expressed interest in expanding the franchise’s universe into new projects.
