They attribute the recent wave of violence in Bogotá to the Venezuelan criminal gang "El Tren de Aragua"

First modification:

In Bogotá, Colombian authorities have attributed the recent wave of violence to Venezuelan criminal gangs. Since January 2022, 23 bodies wrapped in bags have appeared on the streets of the Colombian capital. They point, among others, to the criminal group “El Tren De Aragua”, originally from Venezuela but which has extended its criminal activity to several Latin American countries.

The criminal group “El Tren de Aragua” It was formed about a decade ago in the Tocorón prison, in the state of Aragua, a region located in the north-central region of Venezuela. Although they operate from that penitentiary center, their crimes impact countries such as Chile, Peru or Colombia.

At the head would be Héctor Guerrero, alias “Niño”, sentenced for the murder of an official. It is impossible to know how many members this criminal group has, but they number in the thousands and their activities range from food or sports promotion to migrant and drug trafficking.

Ronna Risquez She is a journalist and investigator in criminal gangs: “(El Tren de Aragua) carries out bloody activities and records them to threaten and scare people who could be their enemies or those who do not comply with their orders, but it is not a group involved in armed confrontations, It is not a group that is going to lead situations similar to those that are usually seen with the Mexican cartels, or with the paramilitary groups or Colombian ex-guerrillas. The Aragua Train has another way of operating, more associated with specific events (…) to send an exemplary message to people who might try not to follow its rules.

Bogotá blames the Aragua Train for being behind the murders of people who have later appeared, some dismembered, in bags on the city streets.
