This morning, Konami confirmed the return of Suikoden with a remastered collection that includes its first 2 installments. This is news that fans loved as it represents the return of an iconic saga after years of being forgotten. This is an important moment for the franchise and its creators want it to be the start of something new.
Recently, IGN had the chance to chat with Konami veterans like Yasuo Daikai and Takahiro Sakiyama about the return of Suikoden and the characteristics of the remastering. An unavoidable question was about what this return means for the franchise and if it represents a chance for it to return to its glory days.
Given this, Daikai made it clear that it is still too early to ensure something, but that he wants the remaster to only be the beginning of the return of Suikoden. In this way, there is the possibility that the franchise will have more installments as long as the fans support the project.
“I can’t say anything specific at this point, but we really don’t want to just end up with the remaster. So yes, I would like to make more games of Suikoden in the future. So let’s hope that our fans will support us and motivate us, and hope that we can deliver on those promises so that you guys can enjoy them,” he explained.

Konami wants to improve the localization of Suikoden
In the interview, Daikai also confirmed that they are working to improve the localization of Suikoden. As fans know, the franchise’s first Western release has been widely criticized for a buggy English localization, poor word choice, and a few nonsensical sentences.
This is something that Konami recognizes and this is why they went to work to adjust the localization and improve it. Of course, it is unknown exactly how much it will change, but it is good to know that there is an attempt to improve.
“For the original games, the size of the dialog boxes was small and there wasn’t much we could fit in there. Japanese is a language that can say a lot in a small space of time, but for English and other languages, you need a lot of space to say the same thing. So in this game we expanded the size of those dialog boxes and that has made us rework the localization to be more like the Japanese script,” he said.
