The conflict between the two factions of the coca leaf industry in Bolivia

First modification:

In this edition of El Debate we analyze from opposite points of view the conflict of coca growers that takes place in Bolivia. Since the beginning of August, the official market, led by Freddy Machicado of the Departmental Association of Coca Producers (Adepcoca), has been facing the Government and the growers in charge of a parallel market led by Arnold Alanes, akin to the ruling Movement for Socialism (MAS). ). The episodes of violence are already seriously affecting the city of La Paz.

The clashes between the two factions focus on the operation of a point of sale other than the traditional Villa Fátima market, where legal coca from the yungas is sold. A market that has been operating for almost half a century. This confrontation will be our topic to analyze from the hand of our guests:

– Kathryn Ledebur, director of the Andean Information Network, in favor of the ruling party.

– Luisa Nayar, national deputy of Bolivia, on the opposition side and in favor of the coca growers of Adepcoca.
