Colombian authorities announced the capture of several members of the ‘Los Maracuchos’ gang, a criminal network accused of drug trafficking and homicides, and as promoters of criminal markets in Bogotá.
As the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, said on Monday, a recent operation, called JOB, allowed the capture of 10 of the 16 accused criminals who make up the network. Nine of them are of Venezuelan nationality, the rest are Colombian.
The gang is accused of nine homicides in Bogotá, four contract killers and five cases of ‘bagged’, that is, bodies that have been found lifeless inside plastic bags.
“We found the capture of its leader, a Colombian who calls himself the alias of Leo. We found a total of 10 people captured, 7 of them had a court order. We had already identified them, we knew what criminals they were, we knew how many were Colombians and how many were Venezuelans,” the mayor reported.
For his part, the commander of the Bogotá Police, General Carlos Triana, said that “the important thing is to point out that the National Police, with the guidance of the district administration and with all its capacity for criminal investigation, intelligence within the framework of the frontal attack against multicrime, will continue to work unattainably for the tranquility and security of the people of Bogotá”.

The operation was carried out by the Multicrime Special Group. Aníbal Fernández de Soto, secretary of security, pointed out that “it is one more example that there are not and will not be territories that are prohibited or co-opted by crime. For this reason, we contributed to the clarification of these nine homicides, which generated fear in the inhabitants of the capital, especially among the inhabitants of the center of the capital.”
During the operation, the authorities reported having carried out nine search and search procedures. After a seven-month investigation, the arrests were made on Saturday and Sunday.
According to the authorities, in the joint operation between the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police, a silencer for a 9 mm pistol, police and army jackets, caps and uniforms, 1,708 doses of marijuana, 2.7 million pesos in cash, seven cell phones, a gramera, ziploc bags for dosing, white and brown wrappers for dosing and two notebooks of criminal activities.

In addition to committing multiple homicides, the gang would be related to the Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan criminal gang that the authorities hold responsible for almost 20 bodies found in the streets of Bogotá. Both bands, in fact, would be the protagonists of the recent vendettas in the Colombian capital.
