Sep. 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least three ‘blue helmets’ of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) were injured on Sunday due to the explosion of a mine in the surroundings of the city of Timbuktu (north), as confirmed by the International organization.
“A vehicle from one of our patrols hit a mine on September 11 between Ber and Timbuktu. The three injured ‘blue helmets’ are not a target,” MINUSMA said on its Twitter account. “Patrols are a means of ensuring and protecting communities against the threats they face,” she added.
In recent months, Mali has been registering a growing number of jihadist attacks carried out by both the Al Qaeda branch in the region and the Islamic State branch, which has also increased inter-community violence and caused the displacement of tens of thousands of people.
