The coffin of Elizabeth II began this Sunday, September 11, the first of a series of tours to pay tribute to her and allow the British people to say goodbye.
In a caravan, the body of the sovereign departed in the last hours from Balmoral Castle bound for the Palace of Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh, the Scottish capital.
On its way, the coffin that transports the queen has passed through several towns and thousands of people gather on its roads to say goodbye to the woman who led her monarchy for more than seven decades.
The monarch’s state funeral will be on Monday, September 19, at Westminster Abbey in London.

The trumpets of the Royal Welsh Band are sounded and the soldiers fire 21 rounds of shots, in honor of the new monarch.

The queen’s love of horses and racecourses was well known. Athletes and attendees paid tribute to the monarch with two minutes of silence, at Doncaster racecourse, in South Yorkshire, before the first competition after the death of the sovereign.

Thousands of people gather and wave flags on the route where the funeral procession carrying the monarch’s body passes.
Many accompany with a somber silence, some applaud and others cry. As the hearse reached the small town of Ballater, near Balmoral, hundreds stood by the roadside in the bright morning sun as the hearse passed, some throwing flowers onto the road.
“She’s like a member of the family, overwhelming sadness that she’s not going to be with us,” said Elizabeth Alexander, a 69-year-old woman, who was born the day the queen was crowned in 1953.
The caravan will travel a total of 175 miles, a journey expected to take six hours. Among the towns on your tour before reaching the Scottish capital are Aberdeen, Dundee and Perth.
“We traveled quite a bit today to come here, but we felt it was really important to come and pay our respects to him when he passed through Ballater,” said Nicola Gibson, through tears.

Crowds of people have gathered on the sides of the roads in towns and villages where the monarch’s coffin passes.
The tour this Sunday, September 11, is scheduled to end around 4:00 p.m. local time.
The body of Elizabeth II will rest in Holyroodhouse until the afternoon of Tuesday, September 12, when it will leave for St. Giles Cathedral, also in Edinburgh.
