Sep. 9 () –
King Charles III received the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, in the first meeting between the two since Elizabeth II died on Thursday and her eldest son assumed the crown.
Truss, who received on Tuesday from the hands of the late queen the task of forming a government, has been seen for half an hour with the successor, according to the BBC. The head of government plans to attend the mass in memory of Isabel II in the cathedral of San Pablo.
Prior to the meeting, the king, accompanied by the queen consort Camila, was received by thousands of citizens who were waiting in front of the palace gates with bouquets of flowers. A woman, visibly moved, has been able to kiss the monarch on the cheek, as reported by the BBC.
Between shouts of “God save the king” and applause, Carlos III has entered Buckingham Palace, seat of the British monarchy, in a return to London, from Scotland, very symbolic after the death of Elizabeth II, who has reigned for 70 years in the UK.
This Friday afternoon Carlos III will also address the nation for the first time, with a recorded speech.
