The EU approves 15 million for the military mission of African countries in Mozambique

BRUSSELS, Sep. 8 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The European Union has approved this Thursday 15 million euros from the European Mechanism for Peace to support the activity of the military combat mission of the Southern African Development Community in northern Mozambique.

These funds will serve to provide equipment, medical, technological and logistical material to the mission deployed by a series of African countries to combat the jihadist insurgency in the province of Cabo Delgado.

This aid is complementary to the 89 million that the Twenty-seven have allocated to develop the Mozambican Army, which receives military training from the EU.

The adoption of this assistance comes at the height of the visit of the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, to the country as part of a tour of Africa that will take him to Mozambique, Kenya and Somalia.

On Friday, Borrell will travel to the facilities of the EU military mission, a visit that he will make together with the Director General of the EU General Staff, Admiral Herve Blejean.
