The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, announced this Thursday a massive public intervention to freeze energy bills for two years, the end of the ban fracking and a bet on nuclear energy with the objective that in 2050 25% of the supply in the United Kingdom comes from this source.
Annual energy bills will be frozen in 2,500 pounds -2,875 euros- for the average household both this winter and next. The measure will come into force on October 1st. With this measure, UK households will save an average of 1,000 pounds a year. Truss has also announced that the 400 pound help to meet these bills and that companies will also benefit from this energy plan.
Truss, who has made this announcement in the British Parliament, has pointed out that with the intervention of the prices of the energy bill “Inflation will drop five points.”

End the fracking ban
This energy plan from Liz Truss also includes end the ban on fracking -prohibited in 2019- to face this crisis with the granting of “more than 100” oil and gas exploitation licenses in the North Sea to boost domestic production.
In this sense, Truss has advanced that this measure, the fracking, “It will only take place where there is support for it.”
As reported by Reuters, the granting of operating licenses will not offer any short-term relief for energy bills, since normally it takes between five and 10 years from the initial exploration until it occurs gas and oil.
‘Nuclear Great British’
Another of the key pillars of the Truss energy plan is the relaunch of the nuclear energy so that 25% of the country’s energy supply comes from this source in 2050.
To this end, Truss has announced that at the end of this month the Governmentor launch the campaign great british nuclear -Great British nuclear– to report that “secure energy supplies are vital for growth and prosperity, but have been ignored for too long”. “This will help us build a stronger and more resilient UK,” added the Prime Minister.
Renewable energy
Truss has also announced the creation of a working group to address the issue of clean energy in the United Kingdom. On the table is, he has confirmed, the acceleration of new clean energies wind and solar power in parallel with the promotion of nuclear energy.
“There are no free options”
Truss’s plan to contain rising energy prices on the bill of the British could be valued at about 150,000 million pounds (172,000 million euros)which will be financed against the public debtinstead of increasing taxes, in line with the priorities that Liz Truss has defended during the Conservative primary campaign.
Truss confirmed in his appearance in the British Parliament that The cost of this energy plan will not be known until the end of September with the approval of the Treasury.
“We are facing a global energy crisis and no free options. There will be a cost to this intervention of the bills,” Truss said, to applause from the Conservatives.
No income tax
Truss has once again made it clear, as she did yesterday in her first speech as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, that she maintains her star measure, the reduction of taxes.
Thus, it has been shown against imposing a windfall profits tax to energy companies to help tackle rising energy prices across Europe.
“We are not going to give in to the leader of the opposition who wants all this to be financed with a windfall profits tax,” Truss said, noting that such a measure “would undermine the national interest.”
