Sony believes that Microsoft’s offer to keep the franchise Call of Duty on PlayStation three years longer than initially agreed with Activision Blizzard is “inadequate on many levels” and “does not take into account the impact” on its players.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, announced at the beginning of the year and in the process of being approved by the relevant authorities, was a jug of cold water for Sony, since many of the developer’s games have been available for years on PlayStation .
Then, Sony showed its doubts, hoping that the Redmond company would fulfill the contracts that had already been signed with Activision Blizzard, and that ensured that titles like Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Candy Crash and Call Of Duty would be played on PlayStation.
At the center of the struggle between Microsoft and Sony is Call of Duty, one of the most popular, and which was initially going to be available on PlayStation with the three upcoming releases, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Last week it became known that the CEO of Microsoft Gaming and head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, sent a letter earlier this year to his counterpart at PlayStation, Jim Ryan, to promise in writing that the Call of Duty saga will be able to remain. “many more years” on the Sony console.
Now, and as Ryan has specified in GamesIndustry.bizthis extension of the agreement translates into another three years of Call of Duty on Playstation.
“Microsoft has only offered Call of Duty to remain on PlayStation for three years after the current deal between Activision and Sony ends. After almost 20 years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their proposal was inadequate on many levels and didn’t take into account the impact on our players,” The PlayStation manager has declared.
