We have recently heard Rumors that the NVIDIA RTX 4080 will come in two VRAM variants, 12 and 16 GB. From the hands of the same leaker we hear rumors that these two models can be launched simultaneously, so we can see NVIDIA RTX 4080 cards with different amounts of memory in the next generation. This has already happened on previous occasions, for example, the NVIDIA RTX 3080 is available in 10 and 12 GB configurations of VRAM.
These models with different VRAM capacities were released on different dates, leaving the higher capacity model for later. But this will not be the case of the new NVIDIA RTX 4080, which according to what they tell us in the Tweet the launch of these two models it will be simultaneous as happened with the NVIDIA GTX 1060 3 and 6GB. So manufacturers will be able to choose how much memory to include in their models, 12 or 16 GB.
But on previous occasions, in addition to the amount of memory, also changed CUDA kernels available. Returning to the example of the current NVIDIA RTX 3080, the one with 12 GB of VRAM has a slightly top of CUDA kernels. It is not specified that this will be the case with this new NVIDIA RTX 4080 model, but if it is the case we can count on a NVIDIA RTX 4080 with different performances due to its memory capacity and, perhaps, its CUDA cores.
