Sep. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least 36 dead in clashes between the Yemen Transition Council (STC), the political body of the separatist movement supported by the United Arab Emirates, and members of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda in the Yemeni province of Abyan, as reported by the agency of YPA news.
Among those killed by the armed combat in the Ahwar district would be, on the side of the STC, the commander of the Anti-Terrorist Battalion of the First Brigade, Yaser Abu Shaye, along with several of his companions, as explained in several messages on his profile. Twitter official.
Likewise, at least six members of Al Qaeda would have died, while the STC forces -which control the province of Abyan- would have captured several members of the organization while they were chasing “elements fleeing towards the surrounding mountains”.
The STC is part of a Saudi-led military coalition fighting the Iranian-backed Houthi movement in Yemen. The STC, which seeks self-government for southern Yemen, broke with its nominal ally, the Saudi-backed Yemeni government, after seizing its temporary base in Aden.
Although the separatists have an agenda opposed to that of the Hadi government, since they demand self-government in the south, they are part of the coalition that intervened in March 2015 against the Houthis. The seizure of Aden exposed the differences between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which supports thousands of southern fighters.
