The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Monday the death of two employees of its diplomatic mission in Afghanistan after a strong explosion near the Russian Embassy in Kabul.

“On September 5, at 10:50 a.m. (Kabul time), in the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the consular section of the Russian Embassy in Kabul, an unknown militant detonated an explosive device,” Russian authorities reported.

Thus, the Russian diplomatic portfolio has confirmed in a statement the death of two of its employees in Afghanistan and has advanced that “there are also victims among Afghan citizens.” The investigation of the events is now carried out by the Afghan security services.

For his part, the spokesman for the Kabul Police, Khalid Zadran, has confirmed what happened on his profile on the social network Twitter, although he has released a first balance that speaks of a dead civilian and ten others injured.

According to Zadran, “a suicide bomber” intended to blow himself up “among the crowd” in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy, ​​”but before reaching his target, the security forces attacked him, which caused the explosion.”

Later, the Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, spoke about what happened and called the event a “terrorist act” that is “absolutely unacceptable”, according to the TASS news agency.

“We strongly condemn such terrorist acts… Of course, now the main thing to do is to get information from the ground about what happened to our representatives and diplomats,” Peskov said.
